The primary activities of Black Engine Aersopace (BEA) are the development and the production of rocket engines on basis of ceramic carbon. Therefore, cooperation and licence contracts with the German space Center (DLR) in Stuttgart have been installed. BEA is a spin off by the DLR Stuttgart.

The ceramic carbon combustion chamber was originally developed and tested by Markus Ortelt, project manager DLR Stuttgart who is also managing partner of BEA.
