Anthea COMELLINI

GNC engineer at Thales Alenia Space and member of ESA astronauts reserve

Anthea Comellini, born in Italy in 1992, has established herself as a highly accomplished aerospace engineer with a robust academic background and diverse experience in space operations. She earned her bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering with "cum laude" honors from the Polytechnic University of Milan in 2014. Building on this foundation, she completed a master’s degree in space engineering, also with "cum laude" distinction, from the same institution in 2017, as part of a double degree program with ISAE-SUPAERO in Toulouse, France. During this period, she also obtained a master's degree in image and signal processing and advanced control from the University of Paris-Saclay.

In 2021, Anthea completed her doctorate in autonomous navigation for space rendezvous at ISAE-SUPAERO, in collaboration with Thales Alenia Space. Her research included a six-month stint as a visiting researcher at the Polytechnique Montréal in Canada, where she focused on mobile robotics and autonomous systems.

Following her doctorate, Anthea worked as a flight dynamics engineer at ESA's European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in Germany, where she was involved in deep space navigation for missions like BepiColombo and Mars Express. Since 2022, she has been employed as a GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) and AOCS (Attitude and Orbit Control System) engineer at Thales Alenia Space in Cannes, France.

Her selection as a member of the ESA astronaut reserve in November 2022 highlights her exceptional capabilities and potential contributions to future space missions.
