Anthony VODACEK

RIT • Professor

Anthony Vodacek is a Full Professor of Imaging Science at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). He received his B.S. (Chemistry) in 1981 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his M.S. and Ph.D. (Environmental Engineering) in 1985 and 1990 from Cornell University. His areas of research lie broadly in multi-modal remote sensing with a focus on the coupling of imaging with modeling and machine learning for application to monitoring both terrestrial and aquatic systems in natural and human environments. His specific expertise is in spectral phenomenology and image interpretation and has recently worked on applying these methods for a wide variety of topics such as biodiversity assessment and monitoring, vehicle tracking, and detecting harmful algal blooms. He was worked with satellite, airborne, and drone remote sensing systems as well as IoT systems for field measurements of bioacoustics and water quality. He is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Great Lakes Research, and is supporting the African Center for Aquatic Research and Education effort to build a monitoring system for the African Great Lakes. He is the scientific advisor to Space4Innovation, is a Senior Member of IEEE, and supports the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Global Activities Directorate as the liaison to Sub-Saharan Africa.
