Christina BALOMENAKI

Transformable Intelligent Environments Laboratory (TieLab), Technical University of Crete • Architect - Researcher, Coordinator of "Space Architecture and Extreme Environment's Habitation" Research Group

Christina Balomenaki is an Architect Engineer and research associate at the Transformable Intelligent Environments Laboratory (TUC TIE Lab) of the Technical University of Crete, where she coordinates the ‘Space Architecture and Extreme Environments Habitation’ research group. Her work focuses on human-centric design and habitability in extreme environments, combining psychological, anthropological, and social parameters. She recently participated in Greece’s first official scientific expedition to Antarctica, where she led an experiment using neuro-architecture methods to enhance emotional resilience in confined, isolated settings—research with direct applications in space habitat design. Driven by the belief that future space habitats must reflect the full spectrum of humanity, her research additionally explores the social, cultural, and psychological foundations of sustainable space communities—seeking insights that can benefit both life in space and on Earth.
