David Saint-Jacques

David Saint-Jacques has always been keen on exploring the world around him. Prior to becoming a Canadian Space Agency Astronaut in 2009, he practised family medicine in a northern Canadian community overlooking Hudson Bay. Before that, he worked internationally as an engineer and astrophysicist. In December 2018, he flew to the International Space Station as co-pilot of the Soyuz MS-11 spacecraft. During his 204-day mission, as crew medical officer and flight engineer, he conducted a variety of scientific experiments, technology demonstrations and outreach events. He became the fourth CSA Astronaut to perform a spacewalk and the first to use Canadarm2 to capture a visiting spacecraft. Since his mission, David Saint-Jacques has been supporting current and future CSA Human Spaceflight projects, including Canada’s contributions to deep space exploration within the Artemis program.
