Francois Jacq

Born on October 28, 1965, François Jacq is a former student of the École Polytechnique, a doctor of Mines ParisTech, and a general engineer of Mines. He began his career as a researcher at the Center for the Sociology of Innovation (Mines ParisTech) from 1993 to 1996. He then joined the Ministry of Research. A project manager at the Directorate General for Research and Technology from 1996 to 1997, he was then appointed head of the "Energy, Transport, Environment, Natural Resources" department.

In 2000, François Jacq became Director General of Andra (National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management). In 2005, he was appointed Director of Energy Demand and Markets at the Directorate General for Energy and Raw Materials within the Ministry of Industry. In May 2007, he was appointed advisor for industry, research and energy in the office of Prime Minister François Fillon, then, in August 2008, advisor for sustainable development, research and industry.

In April 2009, he became Chairman and CEO of Météo-France. And, from 2010 to 2013, he was Chairman of the Board of the European Meteorological Centre (ECMWF). In 2013, he became Director of Ifremer (French Research Institute for Exploitation of the Sea). In 2018, he was appointed General Administrator of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA). On March 16, 2022, he was reappointed to this position by the Council of Ministers, which he held until his appointment as head of the CNES.

He is also President of the European Association of Research and Technology Organisations (EARTO).
