Gülin Dede

Dr Gülin Dede is a science-policy leader and technology strategist with more than two decades of experience shaping major European and international programmes across space, climate, and digital transformation.

At the European Space Agency, she coordinated the space segment of Copernicus, the world’s largest Earth observation programme, ensuring alignment between advanced technological capabilities, high-level policy priorities, and global public value. She has contributed to climate action partnerships across Latin America, Africa, and Europe; collaborated with UN bodies, national space agencies, and major scientific organisations; and chaired international panels on space sustainability, Earth system governance, and digital twin futures. She has been recognised with multiple ESA awards, including a Director General distinction, and has served as an invited expert at UNESCO, UNOOSA, ITU, WMO, and global science and policy forums.

Dr Dede serves as COPUOS Chair of the Space Renaissance International (SRI) Delegation, Director of Partnerships, and Co-Chair of the Space Art and Media Lab. She is the National Coordinator for Germany of the Moon Village Association (MVA) and a member of the IAF CLIODN and ACCESS-MECA Committees, as well as Women in Aerospace (WIA) Europe.

She is also engaged in emerging EU regulatory frameworks, contributing to policy analysis and implementation pathways for the AI Act, the EU Space Act, and the Clean Industrial Deal, with a focus on responsible innovation, digital transformation, and multi-sector governance. Her research and advisory work informs evidence-based policymaking at the interface of strategic governance, security, and technology, aligned with European Commission priorities and broader international policy dialogues. She also lectures and curates interdisciplinary programmes on space entrepreneurship and space mission simulations, bridging academic frameworks with operational and policy realities.

As the first Turkish female analog astronaut and mission commander, Dr Dede brings experiential insight into human–technology interaction and spaceflight preparedness. She advances science communication and art–science dialogue, creating cultural platforms that broaden public understanding of planetary challenges. She works to unite scientific evidence, cultural intelligence, and international collaboration to shape systems capable of supporting a resilient, equitable, and sustainable global future.
