Gustavo Necco

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, graduated in Meteorological Sciences at the University of Buenos Aires, in 1968. He further acquired a D. Sc. (Meteorology) from the University of Paris VI, France, in 1972.
Joined the Argentinean Meteorological Service in 1962, heading its Synoptic Research Institute from 1976 to 1985 where he was in charge of the implementation of numerical weather forecasting activities. Involved in research from 1970 to 1972 at the French EOLE project, Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique, ENS/CNRS, Paris, and from 1981 to 1982 as a visiting scientist at the NMC Development Division, Washington DC, USA. In addition, from 1973 to 1985 at the Department of Meteorology, University of Buenos Aires, he was an active faculty member in the area of geophysical fluid dynamics.
He was a Member of the Panel of Experts on Meteorological Satellites, World Meteorological Organization (WMO) during the period 1983-85. Since 1985 till 2002 has served as Director of the WMO Education and Training Department.
In November 2002 was appointed Director of the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research (IAI), Sao Jose dos Campos, Brazil.
Retired on December 2004 now resides in Montevideo, Uruguay. Member of the WMO EC Panel of Experts on Education and Training, representing RA III (South America), for the periods 2003-2007 and 2007-2011. Since 2007 is Honorary Professor at the Institute for Fluid Mechanics and Environmental Engineering (IMFIA), FING, University of the Republic (UdelaR) in the Career of Atmospheric Sciences.
