Hans-Joerg Dittus

Since October 2011, Hansjörg Dittus is the Executive Board Member for Space Research and Technology in the German Aerospace Center (DLR). From 1977 to 1982, Dittus studied physics and geophysics at the University of Munich. After graduating, he worked as a researcher in the Institute of General and Applied Geophysics at the University of Munich, and was awarded a doctorate in 1986. In 1987 he moved to the Center of Applied Space Technology and Microgravity (Zentrum für angewandte Raumfahrttechnologie und Mikrogravitation; ZARM) at the University of Bremen. There, he first took over the management of the ‘Drop Tower Bremen’ project, where he was responsible for the construction of the large microgravity laboratories that entered service in 1991. Dittus then headed the Department of Gravitational and Fundamental Physics at ZARM and three years later was appointed Head of Space Technology and Fundamental Physics. In 2006, Hansjörg Dittus was appointed Professor in the Faculty of Manufacturing Engineering / Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering at the University of Bremen. Since October 2008, he has been Director of the DLR Institute of Space Systems in Bremen. Hansjörg Dittus is a renowned and recognised expert in the fields of gravitation and fundamental physics and their related technological developments.
