Ikuko KURIYAMA

Dr. Ikuko KURIYAMA is a visiting researcher at the Institute for Future Initiatives (IFI) of The University of Tokyo where she makes research on space policy and governance under the Technology Governance Unit, currently engaging in the SSA policy study and space policy and law outreach projects. In her professional practice, she is an associate principal administrator of JAXA and serves as the advisor to the Director at the General Affairs Department, where she takes charge of risk management, research integrity, and space law. She has a wide variety of experience and deep expertise in international cooperation, especially in space policy and law, Earth observation, and global issues such as SDGs. In recent years, she has led and promoted space policy and law initiatives across the Asia-Pacific region. Notable contributions include the initiation of the National Space Legislation Initiative (NSLI) and Space Policy and Law WG under APRSAF, and the Inter-Regional Space Policy Dialogue between the Asia-Pacific and Europe. She has also led the cross-functional Task Force for SDGs promotion in JAXA, which successfully established the JAXA’s Basic Policy on SDGs. She has been a visiting lecturer at the Graduate School of Public Policy (GraSPP) in the University of Tokyo, and a researcher at the Keio University Space Law Center. She holds Ph.D. in Public Policy, LL.M., LL.B., and Master of Space Studies. She is a corresponding member of IAA.
