John Njoroge Kimani

John Njoroge Kimani is the Lead Scientist and the National Coordinator of the Kenya National Space Secretariat, which is the precursor to the Kenya Space Agency. His main role has been to guide the development of a Space Policy and Strategy for the Kenyan Space Program. His duties have also included the coordination of the implementation of the provisions of the Luigi Broglio– Malindi Space Centre Agreement between Kenya and Italy and the negotiations of the renewal of its term. He is the Country Coordinator for the Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) initiative. This is a worldwide National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) supported students, teachers and scientist’s collaborative program on inquiry based investigations of the environment and the Earth System in study and research about the dynamics of the Earth’s environment. He is also the Kenyan representative to the Technical Committee of the African Resource and environment Management satellite Constellation (ARMC) initiative. This program brings together the four countries of Nigeria, Algeria, Kenya and South Africa in establishing a satellite constellation for mapping of Africa’s resources more effectively for the citizens. ARMC’s membership is open to all African Countries. Dr. Kimani holds a PhD and an MSc in Physics from the University of Nairobi. He also holds a Post graduate Diploma in Education from Kenyatta University and a BSc in Physics from the University of Nairobi. He lectures in Physics at various institutions which include; Kenya Defence Forces Technical College, National Defence College, Defence Staff College, University of Nairobi, Catholic university, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, Gretsa University among others.
