Julio Castillo-URDAPILETA

Julio Cesar Castillo-Urdapileta obtained his Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City, and his Master degree in Resource Management from the University of Edinburgh. He has worked in the public sector at the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Mexico, the US Agency for International Development and the Scottish Environment Protection Agency. In the private sector, he has worked at European utility companies, developing renewable energy projects, particularly landfill gas to energy and small hydros. He also worked in the UN’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) at a GP-Morgan subsidiary based in the UK, developing emission reduction projects in Asia and Latin America. Having a passion for nature and the environment, he worked in a farm in Lesvos Island, producing organic olive oil and wine. In the early years of his career he worked in finance for conservation at the Mexican Nature Conservation Fund. Julio is currently the Director of Space Security at the Mexican Space Agency since 2013, and Chair of the Global Partnership on Space Technology Applications for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP-STAR) for 2016 to 2018.
