Lori Walton

Lori Walton is an independent consultant working with select clients. She holds an M.Sc. in Economic Geology from the University of Alberta and is a professional geoscientist and qualified gemologist. Lori has served as director and held executive management positions (President and CEO) in private and publicly traded mineral exploration companies (Firestone Ventures Inc., Northern Tiger Resources Inc., C2C Gold Corp., Taurus Gold Corp.) working in Canada, United States, and Central America. Her experience also includes providing guidance for governments and industry associations on natural resource extraction policy, mining law, mining regulatory and royalty regimes, environmental issues, economic diversification, First Nation partnerships, mining taxation, public geoscience programming, and competitiveness. Commodity knowledge includes gold, silver, copper, lead, zinc, uranium, lithium, rare earth metals, gemstones, and other major and minor metals and materials.

Lori has served as a member of the International Academy of Astronautics SETI Permanent Committee for over 20 years and currently supports the Committee as its Secretary. Areas of interest include Canadian contributions to SETI, the history of the IAA SETI Permanent Committee, the search for resource extraction technosignatures, post-detection issues, non-human intelligence, and ensuring that historical material related to SETI is properly archived. She helped coordinate a colloquium on non-human intelligence held at the SETI Institute in Mountain View, California and continues to work on preserving and documenting historical material pertaining to SETI. She has presented short courses and lectures on gemstone exploration, lithium brines, prospecting for gold, and the scientific search for life in the universe.
