Maram Kairé

Maram Kairé (born 1978, Dakar, Senegal) is a pioneering Senegalese astronomer and the first director general of the Senegalese Agency for Space Studies (ASES). Fascinated by astronomy from a young age, he built his own telescope and pursued studies in computer engineering in France, specializing in systems and networks.

Kairé has led significant scientific projects, including the development of GAINDESAT-1A, Senegal’s environmental monitoring satellite, and has conducted missions in collaboration with NASA. He is also president of the Senegalese Association for the Promotion of Astronomy.

His achievements have been widely recognized: he was named Knight and later Commander of the National Order of the Lion of Senegal, and the asteroid (35462) Maramkaire is named in his honor. In 2023, he became the first African recipient of the Marcel-Moye Prize from the Astronomical Society of France, acknowledging his contributions to astronomy and space sciences in Senegal and Africa.
