Massimiliano Saponara is the Head of Guidance, Navigation and Control section in Thales Alenia Space Italia (TAS-I), Turin site, which is composed by 20 people. He joined TAS-I in 2001, and he worked on several ESA mission as GNC designer and architect. He was the Drag Free and Attitude Control (DFAC) subsystem responsible for Gravity Field and Steady-state Ocean Circulation Explorer (GOCE) mission, aiming to map the Earth’s gravity field with the best accuracy ever. He was also appointed as Study manager of On-line Reconfiguration Control System and Avionics Technologies (ORCSAT), an ESA study for the application and implementation of Model Predictive Control (MPC) techniques to rendezvous missions. Finally, he was the AOCS subsystem responsible of Euclid mission during all the project phases (from the B2 to the E2).
