Mauro Gaggero

National Research Council of Italy • Senior Researcher

Mauro Gaggero is a senior researcher at the National Research Council of Italy, Genoa. He received the bachelor and master degrees in Electronic Engineering from the University of Genoa in 2003 and 2005, respectively, and the Ph.D. in Mathematical Engineering from the same university in 2010. In 2011, he joined the National Research Council of Italy as a research scientist, where he was awarded as one of the most promising young researchers in 2013. Since 2020, he is a senior researcher at the same institution and the head of the Genoa branch of the Institute of Marine Engineering. His research interests include modeling, optimization and control of complex systems, both from the theoretical and application viewpoints, also using artificial technique tools to manage data collected on the field. Recently, he has focused on the application of optimization techniques for plant cultivation, by developing innovative algorithms for the scheduling of plant sowings and the optimal management of vertical farming systems, both on Earth and in space. He has been the responsible of various research projects in the fields of optimization and control, with focus, among others, on logistics, production planning, unmanned aerial vehicles, fire propagation, and plant cultivation in vertical farming systems. He is an associate editor of several international journals, such as IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, Neural Networks, Soft Computing, and International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing.
