As Senior Scientist for NESDIS, Mike leads efforts to enhance the use of environmental satellite science across NOAA. He drives product development and applications research, ensuring that innovations deliver actionable and reliable environmental information across the global Earth observing system.

Mike’s career bridges the scientific community and NOAA’s efforts to address complex societal challenges. He previously worked in the NESDIS Office of Common Services, where he developed a cohesive approach to satellite product development. At NOAA Fisheries, Mike advanced ecosystem-based fisheries management through joint research with the National Science Foundation and expanded the role of satellite systems in oceanography.

Mike has also collaborated with NOAA’s Office of Ocean Exploration and the Smithsonian Institution to study ocean biology, resulting in the discovery of new species. Mike has contributed to the NOAA Strategic Plan, served on the NOAA Observing Systems Council, and was an active member of several working groups that planned the GeoXO satellite constellation.

Mike holds a B.S in Biology from Providence College and an M.S. in Oceanography from the University of Connecticut.
