Patrizia Bagnerini

Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Genoa • Associate Professor, Numerical Analysis

Patrizia Bagnerini is an associate professor in numerical analysis at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Genoa. Her research activity is focused on the integration of the most applicative part of mathematics with different disciplines, working with researchers in various fields to obtain results in different areas, including neural networks and artificial intelligence applied to distributed parameter systems, optimization algorithms, and scheduling. She is a founding partner of Space V s.r.l., a University of Genoa startup and spinoff that develops a patented adaptive greenhouse for growing vegetables in space, in orbit and in future lunar settlements. She has authored scientific papers concerning growing in space using the adaptive vertical greenhouse. She is also the principal investigator (PI) of the project “UAV platform for monitoring forest fire outbreaks and detecting post-fire recovery hotspots” (2024-27) funded by FISA, Italian Applied Science Fund, concerning the creation of an innovative system based on the integration of algorithms, simulations, artificial intelligence and a robotic drone management platform, to be of support to forest firefighting teams. She was co-PI of the project “C-LEVEL Control of Systems Described by Level Set Partial Differential Equations”, funded by the US AFOSR, Air Force Office of Scientific Research (2016-2018).
