Ren Freeman

Indigenous Research Center (IRC) • Director, Research Coordinator, and Co-PI

Dr. Ren Freeman, Eastern Shoshone, is a 4-Fielded Indigenous Anthropologist and I-STEM scientist with a diverse academic and global professional background. Her primary research spans the nexus of Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) and Indigenous Traditional Ecological Knowledges (ITEK) with use of Remote Sensing and GIS Technologies. She has a Bachelor's degree in Inter/Cross-Cultural Communication (DU), a Master's in Anthropology (OU), and a PhD in Applied Anthropology and Technology (UM). Dr. Freeman is a Sloan Fellow with extensive experience in Environmental Policy and Natural Resources Management with an emphasis in Conflict Resolution. She is a professor and professional who engages in an array of diverse academic and industry related projects wherein she weaves Indigenous Research Methodologies and Methods (IRM2) throughout design, development, implementation, and assessment processes. She is currently the Director, Research Coordinator, and Co-PI of an NSF funded project to develop and operate the Indigenous Research Center (IRC) located at Salish Kootenai College.
