Roy Gladden

NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory • Manager, Mars Relay Network, Mars Exploration Program

Mr. Roy Gladden received a B.S. and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Utah State University. He has been with the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) for more than 24 years. His early career was focused on operating the various orbiters at Mars, including the Mars Global Surveyor, the Mars 2001 Odyssey orbiter, and the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, where he was the mission planning and sequencing lead for the project from before launch through to the ongoing execution of its primary science and relay missions. Many of his efforts were centered on finding multimission solutions to challenging operations problems, most notably as the architect of the Mars Relay Operations Service (MaROS), which coordinates the relay activities of all participating missions at Mars, including all those from NASA and ESA. He now manages the Mars Relay Network for NASA’s Mars Exploration Program, where he leads a team that coordinates all aspects of Mars relay activities.
