Shreya Santra

Tohoku University • Assistant Professor, Department of Aerospace Engineering

Shreya Santra is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Tohoku University, Japan. She specializes in coordination, control, perception, and motion planning tasks for multi-robot systems integrated with advanced algorithms to operate in unstructured challenging environments. With prior experience in industrial robots, small satellite constellations and high-altitude balloons, her current research focuses on AI and Deep Learning techniques applied on multi-modular planetary robots. She believes autonomous intelligent robotics help improve efficiency and speed, as well as minimize the risks and costs involved with human spaceflight, thus advancing scientific research and exploration. She pursued her Ph.D. at the Space Robotics Lab (SRL) in Tohoku University in collaboration with DLR Institute of Communications and Navigation, Germany. For her research, she received scholarships and awards from MEXT Japan and DAAD Germany. She holds an undergraduate degree in Electrical Electronics Engineering from India, an Interdisciplinary Masters in Space Studies from the International Space University, France, and an M.Sc. in Space and Engineering Systems from the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, Moscow, Russia. She is the SGAC Scholarships Team Co-coordinator and a co-founding member of Spaceport SARABHAI, India’s first space policy think tank.
