Valentina Shevtsova

University of Mondragon • Professor Emeritus

Valentina Shevtsova began her work in microgravity research in 1993 at ZARM, University of Bremen. She subsequently developed her career at the Microgravity Research Centre of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium, where she served for over twenty years as Senior Scientist and head of a research group. In 2020, she was awarded a prestigious Ikerbasque grant; following its successful completion at 2025, she now holds the title of Professor Emeritus at Mondragon University (Spain). Her research spans multiphase flows, transport phenomena including diffusion and thermodiffusion (Soret effect), interfacial fluid mechanics, computational fluid dynamics, and vibrational phenomena in fluids. She is internationally recognized for her contributions to fluid physics in microgravity, combining theory, numerical simulations, and experiments, with particular emphasis on mass transport and interfacial dynamics. Dr. Shevtsova has authored over 230 peer-reviewed publications, with more than 6500 citations and an h-index of 46 (Google Scholar). She has led major international research projects, including four space experiments on the ISS and seven parabolic flight campaigns. She has coordinated two international ESA Topical Teams and she served two terms as Chair of the Microgravity Sciences Symposium at the IAF. Dr. Shevtsova is an active member of international scientific bodies, including COSPAR and IAF, and is a former President of ELGRA (European Low Gravity Research Association). She is currently Editor-in-Chief of the journal Microgravity Science and Technology.
