Vishal Gajjar

Dr. Vishal Gajjar is an Astronomer with the SETI Institute, who is leading the charge in expanding the observing capabilities of the newly upgraded Allen Telescope Array. With a PhD in Astrophysics from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in India, Dr Gajjar is a renowned expert in emission mechanisms of radio-emitting neutron stars/pulsars. He is currently a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley and also serves as a project scientist for Breakthrough Listen's international collaboration. His work entails collaborating with half-a-dozen radio observatories across the globe (China, India, Ireland, Sweden, Italy, France, UK) to enable special observing campaigns in search of technologically-advanced extraterrestrial life. Dr. Gajjar is best known for discovering the very first fast radio bursts at the highest radio frequencies and has led several surveys across a dozen radio observatories worldwide. His extensive contribution to the field of astronomy is reflected in his authorship/co-authorship of around 100 publications, with several in prestigious journals such as Nature/Nature Astronomy. Additionally, Dr. Gajjar is a remarkable mentor and has guided over two dozen undergraduate and graduate students from seven countries, leading several first-author publications from his students.
