University of the Western Cape
The University of the Western Cape has several space-related areas of research and teaching. First, the Astronomy working group spans the Physics and Statistics Departments, and is involved in the Square Kilometer Array project. Second, we research cryophiles, terrestial anlogues of possible Martian life, in the Institute for Microbial Biotechnology and Metagenomics. Third, the Political Studies Department has an interest in space policy and history, with a focus on space policy appropriate for developing countries. UWC hopes to launch a student chapter of the South African Space Association during 2013.
