The Swedish Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics (FTF) is a non-profit and independent association that promotes aerospace technology activities in Sweden. The FTF has been in existence since 1968, resulting from the merger of the Swedish Society of Aeronautics and Astronautics, established in 1933, and the Swedish Interplanetary Society, founded in 1950. The Swedish Interplanetary Society was one of the founding members of the IAF in 1951. Currently, the FTF counts about 1,200 members. The main branch is located in Stockholm, and five additional local branches have been established in significant Swedish cities for the aerospace industry. Gothenburg is focused on aerospace electronic developments, Kiruna is “space city”, Linköping is “the capital of aircraft development and production", Malmö and nearby Eslöv harbour a significant factory for innovative light aeroplanes, and Trollhättan is the centre for the development of aero- and rocket engines. Every third year, the FTF hosts an Aerospace Technology Congress in Stockholm, bringing together more than 300 delegates and approximately 150 oral paper presentations, as well as an Exhibition of Products and Services. The latest Congress was held on behalf of the International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences (ICAS) in September 2022. The next one will be held in Stockholm in October 2025. Locally, seminars and lectures on contemporary aerospace technology matters are held for members. Moreover, an electronic newsletter of 20+ pages is published twice a year, unfortunately, only in Swedish. Every year, the Society awards the Thulin Medal to recognise outstanding achievements in aerospace technology. Dr Thulin was a pioneer in Swedish aeronautics in the early 1900s. Moreover, we recognise a Female role model with a diploma to highlight women in aerospace every year
