The IDEA 3G+ Diversity Day at the IAF Spring Meetings 2023

A NEW DAY FOR THE IAF IDEA 3G+ DIVERSITY MOVEMENT

Under the presidency of Jean-Yves Le Gall, the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) has developed the “IAF Global Innovation Agenda 2016-2019” which has opened the doors for emerging countries and new communities, putting the focus of all IAF activities on fostering the principles of “3G” (Geography, Generation, Gender) diversity within the Federation and the Space Sector.

To better pursue this goal the IAF has created the IAF "3G" International Platform for Diversity and Equality in Astronautics (IDEA) and in time the platform has grown from the original three Gs to include all kind of diversities: therefore becoming 3G+.

In the framework of the International Platform for Diversity and Equality in Astronautics (IDEA 3G+ Platform), the IAF has introduced today the newest amongst the IAF Administrative committees: the IAF Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Administrative Committee (IDEA).

The IDEA Committee will further deepen the efforts of the Federation towards the promotion of inclusiveness and diversity within its activities, bodies, and committees. It will support the IAF IDEA Platform and the IAF community within all its activities, creating a better and more inclusive environment.

For over 70 years the IAF has provided a valued forum to discuss the challenges facing our field of passion, space and building an inclusive and diverse space community. New stakeholders, like the emerging space ecosystems, are beginning to take shape and we must not overlook their unique contributions to the industry. And now, with NewSpace and new space actors taking the lead, it is a huge opportunity, emerging space ecosystems must cease to take a further step in the space sector, unlock their full potential and achieve prosperity by bringing all the space benefits down to Earth.

The IAF has recognized this need and has taken steps to include emerging space ecosystems in its vision for the future by rebranding the "Administrative Committee for Connecting Emerging Space ecoSystems" ACCESS, the IAF Global Space Conference for Emerging Countries (GLEC) in Morocco in 2019 and Ecuador in 2022, as well as the diversity day to foster the “Sustainability, Investment, and Security” Agenda, strengthen the 3G initiative, and align with Clay Mowry's - IAF President's vision for 2022-2025.
