IAF MMoP 2026: Space Solutions for Resilient Societies: Security, Sustainability and Prosperity
Since 2009, the International Meetings for Ministers and Members of Parliaments is the platform that IAF offers to Ministers and Members of Parliaments from all over the world to foster their dialogue on a global scale with the traditional space community (governmental representatives, agencies, industry, engineers and scientists).
This year, Ministers, Vice-Ministers, and Members of Parliament are invited to share their experiences around three key themes, highlighting how space has become a strategic lever that enables decision-makers to make faster, evidence-based decisions. Whether addressing the growing pressures of climate change, natural disasters, and resource constraints; Whether responding to security risks arising from an increasingly complex geopolitical landscape and other emerging challenges; Or whether strengthening economic development by fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, while enabling inclusive and sustainable prosperity.
Session 1: Space for Resilience and Climate Action
Space solutions offer concrete tools to prevent and manage natural disasters such as floods, droughts, fires, landslides, earthquakes. Satellites enable the mapping of risk areas, the monitoring of events, and the issuance of early warnings. Before, during, and after a disaster, they help rapidly assess damage and guide emergency response efforts. These solutions support territorial planning and help protect populations. For example, in agriculture, satellite imagery helps anticipate droughts and reduce crop losses. In cities, it helps identify flood-prone areas and improve infrastructure planning. In transport, satellites support the management of roads, ports, and other critical infrastructure, facilitating the delivery of emergency aid.
Session 2: Space Governance: Security, Sustainability and Regulation
Space solutions enhance national security and the protection of citizens. They enable border surveillance, the monitoring of large-scale movements, maritime security operations, and the protection of critical infrastructure. They also ensure reliable communications during crises and in remote areas. These technologies help authorities prevent threats and respond effectively to emergency situations. They are a strategic asset for strengthening national security and resilience. For example, in the fisheries sector, they help combat illegal fishing and protect maritime resources. In transport, satellite navigation enhances the safety of air, land, and maritime operations. In urban environments, geospatial data support traffic management and the protection of critical infrastructure.
Session 3: Space Entrepreneurship and Innovation Ecosystems
Space-based solutions are increasingly driving applications in agriculture, energy, mobility, insurance, urban planning, logistics, and environmental monitoring, yet their potential is still too often overlooked. They provide tools that foster entrepreneurship and innovation, strengthen industrial competitiveness, and attract investment. They support sustainable growth, strategic autonomy, and long-term prosperity. Policymakers play a central role in establishing predictable regulatory frameworks that promote scalable business solutions capable of addressing societal challenges.
