The University of Bologna is a dynamic and complex system covering 5 campuses: Bologna, Cesena, Forlì, Ravenna, and Rimini. With 31 departments, the university promotes research and teaching activities. It also includes 18 centres and over one million square meters of space dedicated to education, research and culture, including 98 libraries and 15 museums.

A wide range of degree programmes is offerd to more than 96,000 students. The catalogue includes 104 first-cycle degree programmes, 144 second cycle degree programmes and 14 single-cycle degree programmes, 110 of which are international and 91 taught entirely in English, reflecting a strong global vocation. The University offers 51 PhD programmes, 59 specialisation schools and 86 first- and second-level Professional Master's degrees.

As a comprehensive research university, Alma Mater invests in the multidisciplinary cross-cultural approach and in the inseparable connection between research and teaching. One of the most active universities leading and participating in European research and academic cooperation projects, Bologna has formed knowledge alliances with industry and public/private organizations. It is a hub of international networks. Beyond its close European links, it enjoys multiple connections with America, Africa, Asia and Australia.
