In Memoriam: Dr. Marius-Ioan Piso

The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) is deeply saddened by the passing of Dr. Marius-Ioan Piso, a distinguished figure in the Romanian and international space community and a long-standing friend and contributor to the IAF.

Dr. Piso devoted his career to the advancement of space science, technology and international cooperation. As founder and former President of the Romanian Space Agency (ROSA), he played a fundamental role in the development of Romania’s space programme and in strengthening the country’s engagement with the international space community. He was instrumental in Romania’s path towards membership of the European Space Agency and was a strong advocate for international cooperation in space.

Dr. Piso was also a distinguished member and former Vice-President of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), where he contributed his expertise and leadership to the advancement of astronautics worldwide.

His engagement with the International Astronautical Federation reflected his longstanding commitment to bringing together space agencies, industry, academia and international organisations. Through his participation in the International Astronautical Congress and numerous international activities, he made a lasting contribution to the global space community.

Dr. Piso will be remembered for his vision, dedication and unwavering belief in the importance of international cooperation in space.
