Where Sensing Makes Sense: EO as an Enabler for Global Policy Solutions

Energy, agriculture, digital transition, peace and security, climate resilience and insurance: these strategic priorities reflect shared challenges that demand joint solutions, demonstrating opportunities to expand the impact of Earth observation (EO), also enabled by international collaborations.

This GNF session uses the findings of the ESPI report, “Where Sensing Makes Sense,” developed in cooperation with the European Space Agency, as a springboard to explore how global partnerships can turn fragmented EO capabilities into cooperative solutions that are systematically embedded into policy and decision-making.

Grounded in an evidence-based assessment of over 300 policy documents and 600+ EO downstream projects, the study provides recommendations to ensure that EO capabilities are no longer standalone tools, but effectively integrated across the entire policy cycle.

The panel convenes sectoral experts and continental space leaders to discuss opportunities for EO to better deliver in line with policy needs, exploring global challenges and agreeing on joint actions forward to build on the assessment provided by the report.
