Ecosmic is an Italian-Dutch startup with the goal to transform space into a sustainable and cost-effective industry. Our mission is to provide modular, innovative, and plug-and-play solutions for space operators, enabling them to maximise the effectiveness of their missions. At Ecosmic, we are committed to upcycling space technology, ensuring a more sustainable and efficient use of the orbital environment. The first challenge that we are solving is space traffic management: with our product SAFE, we enhance the safety of space by offering a service that generates alerts whenever a satellite is at risk of colliding with another space object. Ground operators are receiving a growing amount of warnings for satellite collisions due to the amount of space debris and active satellites in orbit. The process of checking each warning and deciding whether to perform an avoidance manoeuvre is still very time consuming and it is performed manually. Moreover, not all kinds of encounters can be simulated and sometimes the warnings arrive too late to be able to perform an avoidance manoeuvre without using a lot of fuel.
