Alma Okpalefe is the Executive Director of the World Space Week Association, where she leads the global coordination of World Space Week, the United Nations-declared celebration of space and the largest annual space outreach event on Earth. With a background in law and policy spanning over two decades, Alma bridges international space diplomacy with on-the-ground community engagement, particularly across Africa’s evolving space and telecommunications sectors. Alma previously served as Legal Counsel to Nigerian Communications Satellite Ltd. (NIGCOMSAT), playing a pivotal role in advancing Africa’s satellite capabilities. Alma is co-convener of Space Ungana 2025, a rising African space research and education conference designed to catalyze collaboration across academia, government, and grassroots innovators. She also serves as an Advisor to Mission Shaktisat, a space-based initiative focused on women-led innovation in India, and is a Board Member of the Global Space Workforce Development Association, working to foster a diverse, inclusive next-generation space workforce. As Co-founder and Chair of Isaiah’s Hope Foundation, she advocates for the use of satellite data and space-based tools to improve healthcare delivery in underserved African communities.
