Sabrina Corpino

Politecnico di TorinoProfessor

Sabrina Corpino is Professor of Aerospace Systems in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of Politecnico di Torino. She is the Director of the Systems and Technologies for Aerospace Research Laboratory (STARlab) and she leads the CubeSat Programme of PoliTO. She has extensive experience in the field of space systems design and development, with focus on 1) integrated design methodologies for complex systems and Systems of Systems, including optimisation techniques, stakeholders’ needs analysis and design space exploration methods, and 2) development of small space platforms and end-to-end missions. She coordinated all CubeSat flight missions developed by POLITO launched in 2012, 2016 and 2023. She is the academic advisor of the CubeSat student team that involves about 50 selected students per year in the development of space missions and technologies as part of their learning process. She participates in several CubeSat missions developed within ESA programmes, including the SROC project for demonstration of orbital rendezvous and proximity operations capabilities in LEO with two 12U nanosats, and the RCS 6U Cubesats for the exploration of the Apophis asteroid and demonstration of deep space technology within the RAMSES mission. Contributions in these projects are in the area of systems engineering, and mission analysis and GNC design in safety-critical context. She has participated in several international research projects funded by EC, ESA, NASA/JPL and the industry in the past twenty years. The research activity is documented through more than 100 articles published on scientific journals and presented at international conferences.
