Pascal Legai

European Space Agency (ESA) • Senior Security Adviser

Pascal Legai is currently Senior Security Adviser to the ESA Director General. He has a military background as a Major General in the French Air and Space Force (Ret.) and acquired expertise primarily in geography, imagery intelligence, international relations, and space and security issues.

He began his career as an intelligence officer in the French Air Force in 1988, was appointed geographer at the French Air Force staff in Paris from 1994 to 1999, served as Head of the French Imagery Intelligence Centre from 2004 to 2006, and commanded the Air Force Base in Grenoble from 2008 to 2010. He was elected by EU Member States as Director of the EU Satellite Centre in January 2015, an imagery analysis centre based near Madrid providing Geospatial Intelligence and Imagery Intelligence products in support of EU external action. In May 2019 he joined the European Space Agency, first as Senior Security Adviser to the ESA Earth Observation Director in Frascati, and subsequently as Senior Security Coordinator to the ESA Director General in Paris.

He holds a PhD in International Relations, a qualification as Research Director, a law degree, and several Master's degrees in Imagery Processing, Computer Sciences, History, and Mathematics. He is also an aerospace engineer with an Engineer Diploma in geographic sciences.
