Özgün Erler Bayır is a Professor of International Relations at Istanbul University, Faculty of Political Sciences (Türkiye), specialising in security studies, space diplomacy, space policy and governance, the new space ecosystem, science diplomacy, and digital diplomacy. She is NATO Country Project Director for the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Multi-year project "GUARDIAN – AI-Based Behavioural Risk Analysis for Space Situational Awareness". Drawing on her doctoral specialisation in Polish foreign policy, she was recognised in 2026 for her contributions to the field with the Republic of Poland's "Bene Merito" Honorary Distinction. Her record includes leading distinguished European Union and NATO projects spanning digital diplomacy, space security, public diplomacy, disinformation, and science diplomacy.
