Norman Lewis

Washington State University • WSU Regents and Arthur M. and Kate Eisig-Tode Distinguished Professor

Dr. Norman Lewis is Principal investigator of the Arabidopsis Gravitational Response Omics (Arabidopsis-GRO) consortium study in the ISS Advanced Plant Habitat. In NASA supported work, Professor Lewis has conducted numerous ground-based and spaceflight studies, including on Space Shuttle Discovery, Space Station Mir, and International Space Station (ISS). These studies involved microgravity adaptation of plants (e.g. on ISS, from a multi-omics perspective), biosynthesis of medicinals and health-protecting compounds (e.g. using transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and tissue metabolite imaging), and the issue of the importance of lignins in plants in space.
