Dr. Thierry E. Klein is President of Bell Labs Solutions Research at Nokia, where he leads a global, multi-disciplinary team conducting both fundamental and applied research to explore new Nokia value chains, business opportunities and ecosystems. His team focuses on advanced technologies, architectures, systems and applications beyond Nokia’s current portfolio. Key research areas include space communications, advanced sensing technologies, AI-based knowledge systems, autonomous software and data systems, and integrated solutions and experiences.

Thierry serves as the CTO of the Space Communications Solutions business in Nokia Bell Labs. He is the overall technical lead for advanced networking solutions to support future space exploration and the growing space economy. He and his team have developed cellular based lunar surface communications solutions and have deployed and operated the first cellular network on the Moon as part of the Intuitive Machines IM-2 mission in March 2025.

Thierry holds MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering and in Electrical Engineering from the Université de Nantes and the Ecole Centrale de Nantes in France, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from MIT. Thierry has authored over 35 peer-reviewed papers and is an inventor on 36 patent applications. The honors he has received include the Bell Labs’ President Award, “Technologist of the Year” at the Total Telecom World Vendor Awards and an IEEE Communications Society Industrial Innovation Award. Thierry is an IEEE Fellow.
