As Executive Vice President for Strategy and International, Angelo leads the Institute’s strategic and international operations, driving growth across its businesses and expanding the Institute’s global presence by developing new markets and partnerships. He also oversees the development and sustainment of AIAA’s international collaborations with government agencies, private industry, and global organizations. Previously, as Chief Operating Officer, Angelo directed the Institute’s workforce, setting priorities, managing resources, and ensuring delivery of programs aligned with AIAA’s mission to its members and customers. He implemented Board-directed Strategic Plans, aligning organizational priorities with a $20+ million operating budget and a staff of 73 for over 19 years. Angelo has held several additional leadership roles at the Institute. As Director of Technical Products, he managed the Institute’s $15 million revenue-generating portfolio, strengthening its technical publications and conference businesses. As Director of International Activities, he built strategic relationships worldwide—including partnerships with research agencies, aerospace organizations, and the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS)—to extend the Institute’s global reach. Before AIAA, Angelo was an international trade lobbyist with the American Council of Engineering Companies (1992–1998), advocating for U.S. consulting engineering firms engaged in overseas development projects funded by U.S. aid agencies and multilateral development banks. He began his career at the U.S. Department of State (1988–1992) as an analyst and liaison with an interagency counterintelligence community, monitoring and designing policy recommendations to accommodate changes in Cold War–era diplomatic activities in the U.S. Angelo holds a Master of Public Administration in Public Policy and International Program Management from The George Washington University and a master’s degree in International Trade and Business Transactions from George Mason University. He earned his bachelor’s degree in political science and Spanish from the College of the Holy Cross and is fluent in Italian and Spanish.
