Mario Cospito

Italian Space Agency (ASI) • Special Commissioner

Ambassador Mario Cospito has been appointed Special Commissioner of the Italian Space Agency on August 8th 2026.

He holds a degree in Political Science from the University of Pisa. He joined the Italian diplomatic service in 1985 and went on to attain the rank of Ambassador.

Throughout his career, he has held various positions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and in other government administrations, dealing with international economic relations, industrial policy and European cooperation. From 2001 to 2008, he served as Diplomatic Adviser to the Deputy Minister responsible for Foreign Trade and then to the Minister for International Trade. He was Ambassador of Italy to Bucharest, also accredited to the Republic of Moldova, and Ambassador of Italy to Stockholm.

From 2013 to 2016, he was seconded to the Ministry of Economic Development, where he served as Diplomatic Adviser to various Ministers. In 2021, he was appointed Vice President and Head of Institutional Relations at Avio S.p.A. Since 2022, he has served as Diplomatic Adviser to the Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy and as the Minister’s Adviser for Space Policy.

He is a Commander of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic and has received numerous prestigious foreign honours. He has published essays on economic policy and international law.
