Tarun Bandemegala is an Aerospace Engineering Ph.D. student at Politecnico di Torino, concurrently interning at Thales Alenia Space - Italy. In addition to his doctoral research, Tarun is leading the SCAMPI project—an autonomous closed aquatic ecosystem featuring shrimp—which is scheduled for deployment aboard the International Space Station. SCAMPI explores the holistic effect of space conditions on a multitrophic ecological system and long-duration biological sustainability in microgravity, representing a step toward scalable in-situ ecosystems for space habitation.
