Daniel Nölke

European Commission DG Defence & Industry • Unit Innovation and New Space – Space Defence

Daniel Noelke is working at the European Commission in the Directorate‐General for Defence Industries and Space. As a policy officer and seconded national expert, he works in the unit ‘Innovation and New Space – Space Defence’ with a focus on strategic and programmatic activities related to mission and technology development, in particular charge of Act in Space with its domain of In‐Space Operations and Services and the EU Strategy for Space Research and Innovation. Furthermore, he is responsible for the Space Partnership, contributes to the development of space policy and to the establishment of the EU Horizon Europe work programme.

Before his secondment to the European Commission, he worked in the General Technologies and Robotics division of the German Space Agency (DLR) since 2009 with a strong focus on smart and innovative space system approaches as well as technology transfer, innovation and commercialization.

Prior to DLR, he conducted scientific research on structural optimization and space debris risk analysis at the Institute of Structural Mechanics and Lightweight Design of RWTH Aachen University. Daniel holds a university diploma (M.Sc) in mechanical and aerospace engineering from RWTH Aachen University (Germany).
