Jens Jordan is director of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the German Aerospace Center and Chair of Aerospace Medicine at the University of Cologne. Before he moved to Cologne in 2016, he was director of the department for clinical pharmacology at Hannover Medical School and head of the Franz-Volhard Clinical Research Center at the Medical Faculty of the Charité in Berlin, Germany. He graduated from Medical School at Free University Berlin and received his training in clinical pharmacology and internal medicine at the Charité in Berlin and at Vanderbilt University in Nashville. The Institute of Aerospace Medicine serves as interface between advanced technologies and medicine, biology, and psychology. His own research comprises mechanisms controlling cardiovascular regulation and molecular mechanisms responsible for premature cardiovascular and metabolic disease in human beings. Influences of the harsh environmental conditions in space and aeronautics are a particular focus. Research findings and technology developments are translated to medical applications with the overall goal of extending the healthy lifespan on earth and in space. Jens Jordan is Editor-in-Chief of “Clinical Autonomic Research” and published more than 400 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals.
