Ioana Petrescu

ESPI Global Fellow • Former Finance Minister of Romania

Dr. Ioana Petrescu is a Harvard trained economist specializing in public policy, sustainability, and the space economy. She is a Global Fellow at the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI), where she coordinates the HBS- ESPI Space Economics Seminar. She is also a Karman Fellow and a Climate Leader at the Climate Leadership Research Centre at the University of Oxford. She serves as Director of the Center for Leadership and Innovation at SNSPA and is a former Finance Minister of Romania. Her work explores how governments can use space-based technologies and Earth Observation data to improve public policy, including environmental monitoring, public finance, taxation and economic development. She contributed to ESPI’s work on a European vision for Earth Observation and is currently writing a book examining, from an economics perspective, the policies and measures emerging space nations can adopt to develop competitive and sustainable space sectors.
