Deep Space Food Consortium • Head, Strategy and Development

Ralph Fritsche retired from NASA in November 2023 after more than 34 years. Most recently, he served as the Space Crop Production Project Manager, leading NASA's efforts to develop sustainable, reliable fresh food systems to support long-duration missions beyond low Earth orbit — laying the groundwork for future human exploration of the Moon and Mars. He served as head judge for the Deep Space Food Challenge, leading the technical evaluation process that assessed and down-selected competing teams across all three phases. He began his NASA career in 1989, contributing to both the Space Shuttle and International Space Station programs in engineering and operations.
