Lisa Kewley

Dr. Lisa J. Kewley is a distinguished astrophysicist and the Director of the Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA), where she oversees a multidisciplinary team of 800 staff across major U.S. scientific facilities. A globally recognized leader in galaxy evolution and star formation, she has made pioneering contributions to the understanding of star-forming galaxies and active galactic nuclei. Prior to joining CfA, she led ASTRO 3D, a $40 million Australian research initiative uniting 270 members from 19 institutions to explore the history of matter and light since the Big Bang. Kewley has held prominent academic and leadership roles at the Australian National University and the University of Hawaii and is a former NASA Hubble Fellow and CfA Fellow. A committed advocate for equity in science, she successfully implemented gender balance initiatives in ASTRO 3D. Her numerous accolades include the James Craig Watson Medal and election to both the U.S. National Academy of Sciences and the Australian Academy of Science.
