Jordi Puigneró

Born in Sant Cugat del Vallès (Catalonia, Spain) in 1974.

He is currently Vice-president of the Generalitat de Catalunya and chairs the I2CAT Foundation.

Regarding his previous posts, he was appointed Director General for Telecommunications and the Information Society in 2013, Secretary for Telecommunications, Cybersecurity and Digital Society in 2016 and Minister for Digital Policies and Public Administration in 2018. Prior to that, he was a councillor and deputy mayor on Sant Cugat Town Council (2005-2013).

He holds a master's degree (MEng) in Information Systems Engineering from the University of Surrey (UK). From 1997 to 2001 he worked in Frankfurt as an ICT engineer in the IT department of Deutsche Bank. In 2001 he returned to Catalonia to work for a multinational technology company.

Some of the main actions taken during his mandate have been the roll-out of the fibre optic network throughout Catalonia, the implementation of the Cybersecurity Agency of Catalonia, the arrival of the first submarine cables in Catalonia, the promotion of the 5G network and the launch of the first nanosatellite of the Generalitat within the New Space project to boost a new aerospace industry in Catalonia.

He is the author of the book El 5è Poder, La República Digital a les teves mans.
