Joan A. Ruiz-de-Azua

PhD. Joan A. Ruiz-de-Azua received the degree in aerospace engineering from Supaero, Toulouse (France) and the degree in telecommunications engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona (Spain), in 2015. Additionally, he received the Ph.D. degree of telecommunications engineering in 2020. This dissertation contributes to the Internet of Satellites paradigm in which satellites from different stakeholders establish temporal and opportunistic Inter-Satellite Networks. For all this contribution, he was awarded with the Cum Laude mention for the excellence of his Ph.D. dissertation. He has participated in different aerospace projects, such as the development of Ariane 5 and Ariane 6 ground segment in GTD company. Furthermore, he has participated in six CubeSat missions: (1) he participated in the 1U CubeSat mission, called ³Cat-1, which was conceived as a technology demonstrator of these small platforms; (2) he was responsible of the 1U CubeSat mission, called ³Cat-4, with the objective to observe the ice-coverage with a radiometer and GNSS-R payload; (3) he participated in the FSSCat mission as responsible for the FSS Experiment payload, and its corresponding team. This mission was selected as the winner of the Copernicus Masters competition, and the Sentinel Small Satellite (S^3) challenge; (4) he participated in the Enxaneta mission which aimed at demonstrating the feasibility of deploying IoT connectivity over a set of use-cases; (5) he participated in the Minairó mission which aimed at demonstrating the deployment of NB-IoT connectivity; and (6) he is leading the 6GStarLab mission, that provides an in-orbit laboratory for 6G NTN developments.
