Pinar Mesci

Dr. Pinar Mesci is the Global Head of Biomanufacturing and Biotechnology at Axiom Space, in charge of a portfolio focused on biomedical research programs including stem cells, tissue engineering, disease modeling, cancer research and DNA-inspired nanomaterials. Previously, Dr. Mesci was a senior scientist at UC San Diego studying human neurodevelopment using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), responsible of launching the microgravity research with human brain organoids at UC San Diego. She has more than 15 years of experience in translational and biomedical research with a track record of publications in the fields of neuroscience, stem cells, inflammation, Zika virus and coronavirus infections. In 2021, she received the International Rett Syndrome Foundation (IRSF) Innovation Award for her work studying the immune interactions in Rett Syndrome using iPSCs. She holds a patent for the development of methods to generate functional human brain organoids and another patent pending for microglial cells as therapeutic targets in neurodevelopmental disorders. Dr. Mesci earned a BSc in Life Sciences, an MSc in Biology of Aging and PhD in neuroscience from Pierre & Marie Curie University, Paris, France.
