Dr. BN Suresh is presently, Chancellor, Indian Institute of Space science and Technology, (IIST) Thiruvananthapuram. He was former Director, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, VSSC, and also Founder Director for the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) at Trivandrum .

He is a fellow of several professional bodies in India and abroad like Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), Delhi, Indian National Science Academy(INSA), Delhi, Astronautical Society of India(ASI). He is an elected Fellow of International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) at Paris and National Academy of Engineering (NAE), of United States of America. He was Head of Indian delegation for the United Nations Committee for Outer Space at Vienna, Austria during 2004-07. He was elected as Chairman of the United Nations Scientific and Technical Committee for the year 2006 by the Asia Pacific Countries. He was also Co-chair for IPC for the IAC held in India in 2007.

He has won more than 25 awards including a few international recognitions like “Global Pioneer Award” by International Council of System Engineering (INCOSE) at Washington, DC, “Engineering Sciences Book Award”, by the International Academy of Astronautics, (IAA) at Paris and “ IEEE Simon Ramo award 2020”, by IEEE, USA at Vancouver, Canada.

In recognition of his meritorious contributions for Science and Technology, Govt. of India conferred on him “Padmasree” in the year 2002 and third highest civilian Award “Padma Bhushan” in the year 2013.
