Dr. Christian Bach is leading the research field for Space Transportation at the Institute for Aerospace Engineering at Technische Universität Dresden (TUD) in Germany. In this role, he is managing all research activities in the area of launcher and lander technologies, including chemical propulsion systems, thermal protection systems and in-situ resource utilization. At the same time, he works as a lecturer in the fields of space transportation, space exploration, orbital mechanics and spacecraft design methods. After graduating in mechanical engineering with a specialization on aerospace engineering in 2012, Christian started as a research associate at the Chair of Space Systems at TUD. Since 2016, he is responsible for all chemical propulsion related activities. In 2019, he obtained his doctoral degree at TUD on advanced chemical propulsion systems. Christian published more than 100 journal and conference papers. He is co-supervising 12 doctoral candidates and supervised more than 200 graduate students. Christian is a member of the Space Propulsion Committee of the International Astronautical Federation.
